Cambodia Casinos
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that highlights many luxuries aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
