Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
