Cambodia Casinos
There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are situated in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
